THE FOURTH STEP INSTRUCTIONS

In the first 3 steps we have given certain instructions which primarily aimed at improving physical and mental health of our students. The feed backs we received from our old students who had undergone these steps had been  highly encouraging. Many have got rid of their ailments from which they had been suffering for quite a long time, without any extra effort, simply by changing their lifestyle, thinking process and eating habits etc. Some students had reported that they were almost transformed individuals.

In this fourth step we want to give some instructions for observance which may harmonize the relationship within the family as well as with the society at large. Since you have already understood some good and bad points relating to your eating, drinking, sleeping, thinking and other habits for individual physical and mental health and also understood how to shed out anger, how to stay calm and relaxed, how to approach the problems to solve them, it will not be very difficult to create & restore happy atmosphere at home, at working place and in the society by having mutually healthy relationship with other members. If sincerely observed, the under mentioned instructions may prove useful in maintaining and further improving the relationships. Students are advised to observe them for 3 weeks and reply the questionnaire.

1)      Don’t neglect others, deal without hurting them.

  1. Feel that your individuality is associated with and largely dependent upon others also. No body can stay aloof completely. You can be happy only if others co-operate you. If a happy situation is non-existent, you are to initiate the process of seeking cooperation rather than expecting others to do so.
  2. Relationships are generally spoiled, when you want to dominate others or you expect too much from others. Therefore be careful not to be too egoistic to hurt others.
  1. If you are to govern others, develop readiness and willingness in others to be governed by you, The best way is to make others feel involved in decision          process it self by way of consultations etc. Whatever you make others to obey should appear as the best alternative in the given situation and the decision is brought about by contribution of everybody.
  2. Whenever you want to transform others, be conscious not to develop resistance in them. Condemnation may result in negative situation. Let your point be evaluated as an alternative course of doing a thing. In most of the cases you will find that you have achieved the purpose.
  3. Every one is unique. Everybody has his own thinking process largely based upon his upbringing, education and many other factors. Therefore you are to interact with him/her taking care of his/her individuality. However people can be transformed nearest to your expectations. You are to be an active partner in this process.
  4. There are 2 ways of making others to do a thing. One is through persuasion and the other is through enforcing. The first course is always better as it involves no ego crisis and conflicts.
  1. If you want to draw attention of others, you first pay attention to others. Talk their points first and then make them come to yours. Once you reach to your point through this process you are sure to achieve the goal provided of course that it has common interest and it is not motivated out of utter selfish interest.
  2. Don’t expect that whosoever is associated with you will come to your expectations only. Know that others also have similar expectations from you.
  1. The best way to neglect any body is not to speak about or with him/her. Neglecting others, bring about negative situation. Therefore, the best way of creation of positive and harmonious situation is not to neglect others. MAKE A RULE TO GREET EVERY BODY SUITABLY TO MAKE THEM FEEL THAT YOU CARE FOR THEM.

2)      Make a Happy Home

  1. Family is the first unit of society. It consists of family members and persons associated with family. See that you have cordial relations with not only the family members but also with servants and family friends. This situation can be created and improved by caring for them.

Therefore make the following rule:-

    1. Great everybody every day.
    2. Don’t neglect them but care for them by involving (not interfering) yourself in solving their problems and improving their situation whenever needed.
    3. Appreciate their efforts and achievements. Praise them heartily whenever occasions demand.
    4. Whenever any transformation is needed in any body try to do it through persuasion by suggesting an alternative. Let him evaluate it.
    5. Select right time to suggest anything. Take care to phrase the suggestion in such a way that it may develop  no resistance.
    6. If somebody doesn’t agree to your point ask him to suggest a better alternative for consideration.
    7. See whether you need some transformation on your own part. If so don’t hesitate to correct your self shedding your ego.
    8. Remember ultimate aim of all your activities is to achieve happiness and satisfaction in life. If these are missing , your activities need to be reviewed and if need be causative factors are discarded. The greatest achievement is happiness, not tension and worries. Direct all your efforts towards this end. But don’t misinterpret happiness for momentary ups. Try to understand its true meaning. Remember a person living in unhappy family atmosphere may never achieve happiness.
    9. Discuss the point given in these instructions with family members also during the course of your observations. If somebody criticizes welcome it, enquire the reasons and ask for better suggestions for communication to institute.
    10. Since you have already learnt a few lessons about physical, mental, moral and spiritual aspects of health you can persuade to gradually bring about a change in other family members also to adopt “Yogic and Nature Cure way of Life”. Try to amend their eating and living habits etc. Yoga and Nature Cure are global health movement today. Thousand of families are joining this noble movement. Let your family be one of them.
    11. Aged, infirm and invalids in family need your special care and help. Don’t neglect them.

3)      Keep a Healthy Atmosphere at Work Place

  1. Treat your superiors as superiors but subordinates not as inferior beings. They are people put in to help you in your assignments. Only they can bring comfort to you in your work.
  2. When you don’t agree to your superiors don’t disobey for your ego sake but find correct opportunity to put forth your view point as an alternative for consideration while at the same time showing readiness for implementing the instructions already given. However before making any attempt, impartially analyze, whether such an alternative is really, necessary or you are going to do for your ego sake.
  3. Let your subordinates feel a sense of involvement in your achievements. Develop an appreciation attitude.
  4. Don’t always try to find fault of subordinates. Your attitude should be to improve their performance by assisting and correcting them.
  5. If there arises some unfortunate situation for punishing somebody, let the person punished feels that he in fact deserved it and it was a corrective effort on your part.
  6. When you disagree with our superiors or subordinates first put your self in his situation and see whether your disagreement is for genuine reasons. On several occasions you will find that there should be no reason to disapprove them.
  7. The key to all relations should be mutual, co-existence and not serving selfish interests. Sacrifice, tolerance, generosities are good qualities provided they are genuine and not pretensions.
  8. Helping and co-operating others is good but remember receiving help and cooperation is equally important for healthy relationship.
  9. Interpret these instructions suitably depending upon your job in term of persons coming in your contact.

4)      Help for Betterment of Society

  1. Society is composed of people of different culture and races, individuals of different background and upbringing. Adjust with them. At times adjustment demands sacrifice, tolerance, generosity etc. Be ready for it when occasions demand.
  2. The best thing you can do for your society is to be a good man yourself. Observe YAMAS & NIYAMAS of yoga.
  3. Find occasions to contribute your might for common good. Don’t hesitate to help others and less fortunate ones whenever they are in genuine need, without expecting for any return.
  4. If some body comes to your help appreciate and receive it. This enhances mutual relations.
  5. Different societies have different moralities. Evaluate social norms depending upon whether they enhance independence of individuals, their growth and widen vision. Anything which constricts, frightens, restricts the growth and vision; kills individual’s liberty & independence requires reform. Contribute for such reforms.
  6. Exercise your rights as well as perform your duties.
  7. Respect aged and infirm. DO TALK TO THEM AND HELP. THEY NEED CARE.

5)      Respect Privacy of others

  1. Don’t encroach upon any body’s privacy including your family members.
  2. Try to create space for your own privacy as well as for others’ privacy.
  3. Normally don’t interfere in others affairs unless called for or the situation is demanding
