Prof. S. N. Pandey, M.Sc (Geriatric Care), Ph.D, N.D, FCNR is Former Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh (2012-2017). Earlier, he was Professor and Head, School of Oriental Medicine, The Global Open University, Nagaland (2008-2012). Prof. Pandey had guided many research scholars towards completing their M. Phil. and Ph. D. degrees. He has a long experience of working with reputed hospitals and colleges. He is specially known for lifestyle intervention in health and disease, cardiac ailments and mental health. He has also served at the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), an autonomous organization under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India for over 27years. He was the first Naturopath to get an appointment in CCRYN as Research Assistant (N) in 1980. Subsequently he was promoted and appointed as Assistant Research Officer (N). He retired from the organisation in 2008.
He served as the Principal of Government Naturopathic Medical College, Begumpet, Hyderabad, (Telangana) from 1982 to 1985.The College was affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad in those days and subsequently it was affiliated to AP University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. He was instrumental in upgrading 4-1/2 years Naturopathy Diploma (ND) course run there into 5-1/2 years Degree course leading to Degree of Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yoga Science (BNYS) with affiliation from Health University. He was Chairman of the Inspection Commission appointed by AP University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada to upgrade 4 ½ years ND course run at Gandhi Nature Cure College, Hyderabad into 5 ½ years BNYS degree course.
He also served as the head of a survey conducted in 2009 in 21 States of India by NHSRC (Govt. of India), regarding the status and role of AYUSH Systems in National Rural Health Mission.
Prof. Pandey has organized, attended and chaired several national and international conferences, workshops and seminars. His book ‘Jeevan Sutra’ has earned him a lot of appreciation. He has to his credit a good number of publications in the form of books, encyclopaedias, chapters, research papers and popular articles in the field of geriatric care, mental health, Indian philosophy, health care delivery systems and management.
Born on 5th March, 1948 in Myanmar and migrated to India in 1967 he masters three languages –Hindi, English and Burmese. He is associated with several professional, literary and charitable organizations. He has attended, chaired and conducted a number of national and international conferences, workshops and seminars. He has to his credit a number of national and international awards and appreciations.
Dr. Pandey joined as Pro-Chancellor of The Global Open University Nagaland having its main campus at Dimapur on 25th June, 2018 and subsequently in 2023 he became Chancellor of the University. The Government of Nagaland changed the name of the University as International University by amendinfg the act and notitying it in The Nagaland Gazette on 24th October,2024. Thus his present designation is Chancellor, International University, Nagaland.
